Great Demands
It is written: "Be perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect" (Matthew 5:48). Again, "be holy, for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:16). Is it possible for weak, imperfect humans to meet so great demands? It is not possible. Not possible by their own efforts; possible by the power of the Almighty Father. "Be perfect" means "Submit yourselves to be perfected by Him." He is able (dunatai). God by sending the Holy Spirit in Christ can recreate us, and build us to the image of His Son. What is called Christian Morality is not to be considered apart from God and His Christ; as it is also written: "Apart from Me, you can do nothing" (John 15: 5); and "With God all things are possible."
